Private Bradley Manning was acquitted by a US military judge on the key charge of aiding the enemy in the Wikileaks case, but he still faces up to 144 years in jail for his conviction in lesser charges. The judge, Colonel Denise Lind, found Manning guilty on 19 of 21 charges that had been brought against the 25-year-old soldier. Manning has admitted to lifting an estimated 700,000 classified diplomatic and military documents from the US government system. Manning, who has become a cause celebre of free information advocates on the internet in the three years since his arrest, gathered the documents when he worked as an intelligence analyst in Iraq.
